Moulin de Quétivel is the only working mill left in St Peter‘s Valley, and still grinds its own flour.

National Trust for Jersey

The top floor has an exhibition on the history of milling, while the first and ground floors demonstrate how the mill works. There is a shop selling freshly ground organic flours and a wide range of locally produced gifts and a film showing how cabbage loaves (still sold in some bakeries on the island) are made in gorse ovens.

Although the mill is open only on Mon & Tues (May-Sept, 10am-4pm), you can park here at any time and take the footpath from the mill to the mill pond, through red squirrel-inhabited woodland.

Lower down, at the entrance of St Peter’s Valley, Le Moulin de Tesson (Tesson Mill, same opening times as Moulin de Quétivel), has been restored by the National Trust. There has probably been a mill on the site since the 11th century. To fund the restoration of the water-wheel and steam-engine room the National Trust had to grant a long lease to convert the interior to residential apartments. A short film relates the history of the mill.
